Description

The Jewish Prayer Shawl, in Hebrew Tallit, is customarily wrapped around oneself during prayer. Donning a Tallit is the fulfilment of the biblical commandment of tying fringes onto the corners of a four-cornered garment.

This beautiful Tallit manufactured in Israel shares the same blue and white colors as the Israeli flag! This prayer shawl will keep you connected to God and Israel during your worship. The Hebrew blessings which are recited with the donning of the prayer shawl are embroidered into the nape of the Tallit, known in Hebrew as the ‘Atarah’.

Materials: Acrylic
Size: 1.3 Meters x 1.8 Meters

In the Bible

Speak unto B’nei Yisrael, and bid them that they make them throughout their generations fringes in the corners of their garments...And it shall be unto you for a fringe, that ye may look upon it, and remember all the commandments of Hashem, and do them.
--NUMBERS 15:38-39

The Prayer Shawl is made up of two components; the garment, and the fringes- in Hebrew, tzitzit. The garment which surrounds the worshipper represents God who is constantly surrounding each and every one of us. The fringes hanging off of the garment are composed of a series of 613 knots. These fringes serve as a reminder of the 613 Biblical commandments. For these reasons, wearing a tallit is the ultimate way to heighten your prayer experience and connection to God.

Shalom Rosa, according to Orthodox Judaism, there is no tradition for women to cover their heads while praying. However there is no prohibition again women wearing the prayer shawl.

    Judith

Where, in the Torah, are we commanded to wear a tallit?

    • Tzitzit-wearer

But this does not require the institution of a special four-cornered garment that must then carry tassels… Making this obligatory is adding to the delivered commandments – adding to Torah.

I am not denying that there may be blessing in wearing and praying under a tallit – I am merely pointing out the difference between command and tradition.

Shalom, Numbers 15 verses 38-39 details the requirement to wear fringes on any four cornered garment. This is the source for tallit and for the daily tzitzit worn by Jewish men.
