Description

The significance of the shofar dates back to the dawn of Jewish history and its call still echoes today in synagogues and temples all over the world. Playing an important role in the Bible, the shofar is a key part of Rosh Hashanah (the Jewish New Year) and Yom Kippur, when it is played to mark the end of fasting. Shofars are also used to welcome Shabbat and to announce the new year and the new moon.

The prized shofars (shofarot in Hebrew) of the Bar-Sheshet and Ribak families have a long and proud pedigree, reflecting the epic history of the Jewish people traveling throughout the diaspora and finally returning home to Israel.

Only Shofarot Israel offers the skills and expertise of fifteen generations, dating back to 14th century Spain, and now adapted to the modern technology and requirements of present-day Israel and the international market.

In the Bible

Happy is the nation that knows the Shofar’s blast (Teruah), they walk, O Lord, in the light of Your countenance.
--PSALMS (89:16)

Mentioned throughout Jewish sources, the sound of the shofar was used at various times, including at the giving of the Torah at Mount Sinai. Today, the shofar is used on the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah, when that same sound has the unique power to awaken our souls to the presence of its Infinite source, and to renew a vision of the spiritual connection we are meant to build in this world. Get this beautiful shofar in time for the Jewish New Year! Many have the tradition to blow the shofar every morning in the month before Rosh Hashana to awaken our souls to come closer to God.

What others are saying

  1. 4 out of 5 Shofar and case

    Peter Harvey (verified owner)

The shofar is beautiful and I am very pleased with it.
I feel that the case was a slight let-down, being twice the length of the shofar. I would think that you would send one to match.

So very pleased with the Shofar, after a good scrubbing, drying, and oiling. A beautifully semi-polished horn. Am learning to blow it more confidently, as it takes some practice. Am totally delighted.

  7. 5 out of 5 Shofar so Good!

    Donald Broadhurst (verified owner)

Beautiful craftsmanship! I am a novice at blowing a horn of any type so it is a learning experience. But will continue to practice until I am able to blow it correctly and continually. Thank You so much for such a wonderful instrument.

  8. 4 out of 5 How a shofar is made.

    Paula

I didn’t realize the shofar was to be brightly polished on the outside. I liked mine because it wasn’t.

  9. Question

    JoAnne Pitre

Please tell me that there is no killing of the animals to produce the shofar (because of souvenirs or the demand for them).

I was thinking exactly the same… how is the procedure to remove the horns from the animals 😳 Do you use anesthesia? 😥
