Job eBook: Download a taste of The Israel Bible!

From the 70th Anniversary Edition of The Israel Bible

The Book of Job, is a complex work. It presents a number of questions which are very difficult to answer, the most famous of which is the question of theodicy: why do bad things happen to good people? Throughout the course of the book, Job is meant to learn humility and that it is not his place to evaluate or question God. In accepting his suffering, Job becomes a better person. As the commentary in The Israel Bible demonstrates, sometimes it is those that God loves most that He causes to suffer, because in doing so He makes them stronger.

Journey through the complete Book of Job with insightful commentary and a special focus on the Land of Israel. Includes the full, original Hebrew text with clear English translation.

In the Bible

There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was whole-hearted and upright, and one that feared God, and shunned evil.
--JOB 1:1

The Talmudic Sages teach that the land of Uz, the name of which is derived from the Hebrew word for 'tree', refers to the Land of Israel, called Uz in honor of Job who protected the people of his generation with his steadfast righteousness. Just as a tree provides shade and protection from the sun, Job's merit protected the inhabitants of the land.
