Plant@71: Luzit
July 24, 2019

We had such a great time in Luzit! The community and the people were so warm and welcoming.

Luzit was founded in the early 1950s by Jewish immigrants from North Africa. The name Luzit means almond. Almond trees are very prominent in this region of Israel. In the story of Jacob’s dream, Genesis 28:19 says ” He named that site Beit El but previously the name of the city had been Luz.” The location in which Jacob dreamt his holy dream was also in an area with many almond trees.

Eran, who himself has planted hundreds of thousands of trees with the JNF, oversees the agriculture in Luzit. He shared with us heartwarming stories from decades ago when he and his crew planted forests all over the Land of Israel. Now, years later, he is able to look around and enjoy the fruits of his hard labor.

We planted a hearty Honeyberry tree (amongst others) to provide shade for the amazing residents of Luzit.

Thank you to all of the donors who helped us bring joy and trees to the community of Luzit. Click here to donate tree planting campaign.
