Today was the first day of Hanukkah and Israel365 was at the Melabev Day Center celebrating with Holocaust Survivors with dementia. Melabev is a wonderful center that offers day programming to elderly people suffering from Alzheimer’s and dementia. Israel365 sponsors the ad habayit program which sends therapists to the homes of bed-ridden and ill Holocaust survivors.
Today’s party was a special gathering of Melabev clients and volunteers to celebrate Hanukkah. The celebration including plenty of lively entertainment including live musical performances and dancing as well as delicious Hanukkah treats and even a visit from bet Shemesh Mayor, Aliza Bloch!
Thanks to the amazing Israel365 donors, we were able to gift warm winter blankets to more than 50 Melabev clients. It was heartwarming to see the smiles on their faces as they received these Hanukkah gifts.
Many of the Holocaust survivors at Melabev face the daunting reality of reliving their traumas on a daily basis. Their dementia forces them to live and experience the atrocities of the Holocaust over and over again. It was our honor to help sponsor this Hanukkah party to put smiles on their faces and help bring some cheer to their day center.
