Yesterday, Rabbi Tuly Weisz was back at Melabev Day Center in Bet Shemesh. Melabev provides community care for people living with dementia and Alzheimer’s. Among the people that attend the daily programming at Melabev Bet Shemesh are multiple elderly Holocaust survivors.
Every day, Melabev provides warm meals to these survivors as well as stimulating activities, exercise classes and a social outlet. Israel365 is honored to sponsor the ad habayit program at Melabev. This special program send therapists directly to the homes of Holocaust survivors who are bedridden or too weak to attend the programs at the center.
It is not an understatement to say that this program SAVES LIVES. Recently, on a home visit, one of the Melabev therapists found an elderly Holocsut survivor alone, bleeding on the floor of her apartment. This woman had fallen some hours earlier, injured herself, and was unable to call for her. If it was not for the therapists’ miraculously timed visit, who knows how long this poor woman could have been alone and in pain?
Israel365 has begun planning our annual Hanukkah party at Melabev. With just a month to go, we are already looking forward to hosting a festive celebration for these special survivors. Because so many of them are suffering from dementia, they may not remember what they did yesterday, but they are able to recall the atrocities of the Holocaust. It is our mission to help them enjoy their days in their older age and create new, happy memories.
