Rejoice Jerusalem: The 50th Golden Jubilee Celebration

Rabbi Tuly Weisz (L) and Donna Jollay (R) of Israel365 present Deputy Minister Michael Oren with a volume of the Jerusalem Covenant: where more than 150,000 people have signed their names affirming their belief that Jerusalem must remain united.

On May 25, 2017, nearly 300 people from all over the world gathered in one hall in Jerusalem to celebrate 50 years since the reunification of the Holy City as a direct result of the heroic actions carried out by the IDF in the 1967 Six-Day War and the miracles God performed for them.

The aptly named Rejoice Jerusalem Gala Dinner was an evening filled with joy and prayers as the attendees made memories that will last a lifetime.

Awaiting each guest was the beautiful Six-Day War Scroll: The Story of Yom Yerushalayim and the Six Days of Deliverance: The Israel365 Commemorative Journal Honoring Jerusalem’s Jubilee. The 170-page volume recounts the events leading up to, including, and following the Six Day War in the same format as the ancient Biblical scrolls of the Hebrew Bible. Just as the scrolls of Ruth, Esther and Lamentations reveal the Hand of God and his miraculous ways, so too does “The Six Day War Scroll” infuse the events of the Six Day War with religious and spiritual significance.

At the back of the beautiful book are pages filled with dedications from our donors who wished to send a message of love and inspiration as Jerusalem celebrates the momentous occasion. (To read more about this incredible work, click here.)

In attendance were the staff of Israel365, a delegation from Bridges for Peace- an organization made up of Christians supporting Israel and dedicated to building relationships between Christians and Jews in Israel and around the world- a group of tourists with the organization HaYovel, an organization devoted to educating about the restoration of the Land of Israel as it is happening today, along with such noted figures as Member of Knesset Rabbi Yehudah Glick and Deputy Minister Michael Oren.

When everyone had arrived, Rabbi Tuly brought the group to the balcony overlooking the Old City of Jerusalem where he led everyone in a prayer from the Book of Psalms, Chapter 122:

“Pray for the peace of Yerushalayim; may they prosper that love thee. Peace be within thy walls, and prosperity within thy palaces.”

Upon concluding the prayer for Jerusalem, the walls of the Old City lit up with an extravagant light show put on by the municipality of Jerusalem along with exciting music to get everyone in the spirit of celebration.

Rabbi Elan Adler added to the festive mood with his beautiful rendition of HaTikva, Israel’s national anthem, and Yerushalayim Shel Zahav (Jerusalem of Gold), a song composed by Naomi Shemer in 1967, just weeks prior to Israel’s historic military victory in 1967.

Once everyone returned inside and took their seats, Becky Brimmer of Bridges for Peace took the podium where she recounted the miracles of Jerusalem’s unification and introduced Rabbi Yehudah Glick, who then inspired the crowd with his endless love for the Holy City and the Jewish State.

Another highlight of the evening was the highly anticipated presentation of the Jerusalem Covenant to Deputy Minister and former ambassador Michael Oren. The Jerusalem Covenant is filled with over 150,000 names signed by people from all over the world who maintain their firm belief that the Holy City of Jerusalem must remain united

Ending off the evening, the Waller family of HaYovel played live music to accompany dessert, a beautiful way to truly show their love of the Holy City and its place in the fulfillment of Biblical prophecy.
